Meals
Breakfast is served in our dining room on the main floor. Please be seated between 8 and 9 A.M. Early coffee is available by 6:30. We serve a full breakfast menu including eggs cooked to order. Muffins are baked daily, and slow cooked old fashioned oatmeal is a traditional favorite.
Picnic lunches are available in the kitchen between 12 noon and 12:30. We serve a variety of sandwiches, soft drinks, tea, coffee, and cookies.
We do not serve evening meals on a regular basis.
Menus for several area restaurants are on the registration table. We are interested in your comments and experiences at these establishments.
We produce a number of hand prepared food products that are available at the Higgins Beach Market or from us directly. These include potato salad, cole slaw, pasta salad and a variety of sandwiches.

A self-service ice machine is located in the basement level. Enter from the parking lot at the rear of the building. There is a refrigerator and microwave in the same area for the convenience of our guests. Please bag any items you refrigerate and label them with your name or room number.
A telephone is available for free local calls. It is located in the small dining room in the center of the main level. Long distance calls can only be made from this line by using a calling card or charging the calls to your own phone number. This line is also the business line for The Breakers Inn, so please limit the duration of calls as much as possible. If you anticipate a lengthy phone call please speak to a staff member and you can use our secondary phone. We have a fax machine if you need to send or receive documents.
We are a non-smoking establishment. Please smoke outside our buildings.
There is an outside shower for your convenience when returning from the beach. It is located on the back of the building. Please help us minimize the amount of sea sand that comes inside.
A tide chart is located on the porch. The tide changes from high to low every six hours. It is not on a perfect 24-hour rotation and is about one hour later every day. (If the tide is high at 2 in the afternoon today, it will be high at 3 tomorrow.)
Fire protection is provided by the Scarborough Fire Department. The Breakers Inn is inspected by this department and meets all local fire codes. Each room is equipped with heat and smoke detectors. Fire extinguishers are located in the hallways and at all exits. The outside staircase is for emergency use only.
Electric heat is provided in the early spring and late fall. If you are staying with us during these seasons please do not leave your windows open and the heat on at the same time.
We provide transportation to and from bus stations and the Portland Jet Port. Please make arrangements with us in advance.
A self service coin-operated washer and dryer are located on the basement level. Laundry hours are 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. If you need to use an iron, please speak to a member of the housekeeping department. We can provide you with an iron and ironing board. Please do not attempt to iron in our rooms.
In 2007, The Breakers was certified as a "Green Lodging Establishment" by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. We endeavor to do business with local food producers and use business practices that are environmentally responsible. We compost and recycle as much as possible. A recycling bin is located at the primary exit for the use of our customers.
A member of our staff lives at The Breakers Inn and we endeavor to have someone on duty at all times. There may be times during the day or early evening that we are out of the building. Voice mail messages can be left for us at 883-4820. Innkeeper's cell number is 207-252-0100.
Payment for services may be made by personal check, travelers checks or cash. WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS.
Gratuities are not included in our rates. The housekeeping and wait staff depend on tips as a portion of their salary. If they provide pleasing service, please remember them when you check out. Tips can be given directly to staff members or if you desire, can be added to your bill. (In the case of large groups we reserve the right to add 15% gratuity to the bill.)
Check-out time is 10:30 A.M. - Check-in any time after 12 noon.
Please don't forget to return your key before final departure.
